Santa Claus Cookies

The perfect cookie to leave Santa. They look and taste great... ummm... yeah Santa told me that.

Aha... Santa 'was' here! Is it any wonder he is fat.
Aha... Santa 'was' here! Is it any wonder he is fat.

Ingredients
  • 1 roll of chocolate chip cookie dough (sugar cookie dough works too)
  • 1 bag Semi-sweet chocolate chips (for the eyes)
  • 1 container Red hots (those red chip things you find next to the red sugar)
  • 1 container Red Sugar (for the hat)
  • 1 can White Icing (whatever kind you like... Santa won't care)
Directions
  • Cut the cookie dough cylinder into 1/4 inch discs (the more frozen the better - I suggest leaving the wrapper on to hold the dough together),
  • Arrange six or so cookie rounds on a cookie sheet leaving plenty of room around and between them,
  • Take six more cookie rounds on a cutting board and cut a triangle out for the hat.
  • Take the triangles and overlap them on the cookie rounds on the cookie sheet - They will bland together during baking
  • Take the two pieces leftover from cutting the hat and arrange them to the lower left and right of the cookie rounds on the cookie sheet to form the beard area - place the flat side of these pieces against the cookie round overlapping slightly. These will bake together too.
  • Take some red sugar and liberally sprinkle some on the hat triangle - the cookie will spread out so the more sugar the better,
  • Take two chocolate chips and place them close together to form two eyes - remember the cookie will spread during baking so place them close,
  • Take one red hot and stick it in the mouth area.
  • If you screw up any of the cutting and placing just eat that cookie dough and cut more ;)
  • Bake the cookies as per the instructions on the cookie dough wrapper.
  • After baking and cooling off take some white icing and cover the cheeks,
  • (if you want these cookies to go to 11 sprinkle some shredded coconut on the beard's white icing)
  • Put a line of white icing between the eyes and the hat to form the lower "fluff" of the Santa hat,
  • Finish off with a liberal blob of white icing on the tip of the hat.
  • Take best cookie and leave for Santa,
  • Eat the rest.

These things are rich. If there ever was a one cookie sugar buzz... this is it! This recipe will blow through a roll of cookie dough remarkably quick. It's worth it though.

It is a fun combination of many Christmas Cookie colors and flavors. Sprinkling red sugar, placing chocolate chips and one red hot into the cookie dough is the perfect task for the very young. Every cookie is a work of art. Santa hopes you will make him one to fuel his busy night.
